meditation 88
Contracting
all outgoing senses,
meditate
on the Unstruck Sound –
neither vowel
nor consonant –
which Is . . .
You enter
Eternity.
Note:
Swami Lakshmanjoo and Pandit Muju's original reads as follows:
Verse 114
Contracting all the outgoing senses meditate on the sound which is neither vowel nor consonant. You enter the Eternal.
Lakshmanjoo and Hughes, in The Manual for Self Realization, and Singh, in The Yoga of Wonder, Delight, and Astonishment, go into greater detail on this verse.
It is important to know that in Lakshmanjoo and Hughes (The Manual for Self Realization), Swamiji lauds this verse as belonging to Shambav-Upaya, confiding that it is "a very supreme way of going inside God Consciousness, in the state of God Consciousness" (p. 214).
For some reason, in 1974 – 1975, Lakshmanjoo and Muju did not translate the preceding verse (Verse 113), in which Lakshmanoo and Hughes (and also Singh and Lakshmanjoo) emphasize that the eyes should be open and unblinking.
The sound, neither consonant nor vowel?
To make the sound, in quiet, forested Kashmir, is ". . . like a stream flowing."
